Bob Van Persie One Man Full House at Richard Goodall Gallery September 12th

We are very excited to announce that Bob Van Persie will be having his first UK exhibition at Richard Goodall Gallery on September 13th 2013.
Bob Van Persie One Man Full House

Bob Van Persie One Man Full House at Richard Goodall Gallery

Bob’s art career has spanned some 40 years, including time studying at the Royal Academy, The Hague, and the Arts Academy, Rotterdam. Inspired by the many crowds and terraces he experienced while bringing up his son Robin who lived with him from the age of five, Bob’s work is created from materials discarded by others, bringing them alive through the creation of paper dolls which are then collated together on hard board, hardened with Paverpol and finished with acryl varnish, liquid gloss, etc. Much of his work is created from newspapers and magazines collected from all around the world. The paper is used to create the faceless people which are gathered to build a scene such as the stands of a pulsating stadium. Too far away to recognize faces or to point out the individual. “The perception of a roaring crowd, is like a breeze through cornfields. It sends shivers down my spine,” Van Persie says. Sometimes, however, when little colour is used in his work, the silence is overwhelming. Gallery owner Richard Goodall comments: “Bob’s work is truly original. The passion that Bob displays when creating his unique pieces is inspiring and we are honoured to be presenting his first UK exhibition” The opening of the exhibition will be a special private view with the artist - get intouch for an invite to the strict RSVP only event

Ben Folds photographs and tour posters at Richard Goodall Galler 2012

We are really excited that are new exhibition is a world first with the Photography of Ben Folds. Ben Folds is the renowned pianist, producer and musician behind Ben Folds Five and a stream of solo records. Throughout his career Ben Folds has always taken photographs, travelling on tour with a camera, and until now, no one has seen them. Ben Folds Five have just released their first new album in 13 years The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind and are to about tour the UK. We are very proud to present this exclusive show of Ben Folds photographs and the art of the UK reunion tour. selfagain-copy shatner The full band (Ben, Robert and Darren) will be at the gallery for the preview on November 28th, signing and personalising prints and photographs from the exhibition.

Ben's photographs are a stark contrast yet inexorably tied to the persona of life as a professional musician, on tour and in the studio. These can be considered quiet photographs, yet within each shot there is so much within the image and quite elusive for the most part. An inside look at life experienced within moments of solitude, humour in the studio, and then loudness as we see the stage and the crowds. The pictures show Ben, and his friends, including William Shatner, Regina Spektor and Hans Zimmer, in their unguarded moments.

Ben's work follows in the traditions of other great musical photographers Graham Nash and Anton Corbijn, delicately capturing the juxtaposition of the fierce and subtle, and when they rock they rock hard. Richard Goodall looking at them said "There is an image that to me personifies the work, a tour lanyard hanging on the mirror of the tour bus as it hurtles down the empty highway. From where and to where is left up to the viewer. These images give us a glimpse into a life most of us can only imagine, perfectly capturing the moments as if we were seeing them for ourselves. We are delighted to work with Ben to bring these images to the public, and a previously unseen photographic talent into the spotlight. There is something here for everyone. For fans of Ben Folds Five from their first outing in ‘96, new fans of the band and his solo work, and also for photography and art lovers alike. I have one on my wall and I love it" All the work is available to buy at an affordable price, as 16x20 inches and 20 x 30 inches archival pigment prints in signed and numbered editions of only 20. To coincide with the Ben Folds Five UK tour and the exhibition, Richard Goodall Gallery has also commissioned a very special limited edition series of silk screen posters for each date on the tour. Unveiled and available to buy at the gallery these beautiful prints by artists including Brendan Dawes, Jason Munn, Drew Millward, Luke Drozd, Brandon Schaefer, Alex Frazer, Sean Mort & John Powell Jones. The prints perfectly compliment the photography and draw us further into the world of Ben Folds.

Cinema Redux Brendan Dawes September 20th

Richard Goodall Gallery presents Cinema Redux by British artist Brendan Dawes. Opening at Richard Goodall Gallery High Street September 20th - October 13th and then showing at Battersea and Hampstead affortable art fairs. Brendan started the continuing Cinema Redux series in 2004. The Museum of Modern Art in New York has exhibited several of the pieces on two occasions, and has acquired a selection of the work for their permanent collection. Brendan has made 20 of these exquisite interpretations from the series , diasec mounted on aluminium. Each title is 40 inches wide, and the height ranging from 51 to 77 inches depending on the running time of the featured movie. Living in today’s consumer led society we are more than anything defined by the things around us. As human beings it is important for us to represent our likes and conversely our dislikes to the outside world by creating physical objects that trigger memories, debate and chance conversation. But as more of our world becomes digitised it increasingly becomes harder to be surrounded by such artefacts. Music, photographs and now our much loved movies are buried away on our super cheap hard-drives or in the cloud with their seemingly infinite capacity for storage, hidden in a series of ones and zeroes that no visitor to one’s home or office will ever know is there. All of us can relate to particular films that have made a significant impression on us at certain points in our lives. The images in the Cinema Redux series make a physical representation of an entire movie in the hope that you can show the world – or the visitors to your home at least – your passion for a certain film. Not just a certain scene, not just one single frame but the entire film, represented in a new visual form created by Brendan Dawes, a kind of cinematic DNA.
