We at the Richard Goodall Gallery are mighty big fans of poster genius Jay Ryan, and so it is not without due excitement that we announce the arrival of the good man himself to our Thomas Street gallery THIS SATURDAY the 19^th December for a unique book-signing event.

A collection of Jay’s favourite work from 2005-2008, ‘Animals and Objects in and Out of Water’ is a 144 page book which includes over 100 posters with accompanying text, an introduction by Andrew Bird and an essay by Joe Meno. All in all it’s a pretty cracking volume, and this is your chance to own a signed copy!

Ryan first learned to screen-print in 1995, and cut his print-making teeth making posters for his own band, those of his friends, and the many clubs they played at. Before long, Jay’s own Bird Machine Print Shop sprung to life in the basement of his apartment building, before moving above ground in 2002 thanks to the growing demand for its marvellous creations. Jay has since worked for bands including Arctic Monkeys, The Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, The Doves, Interpol, Human League and Sonic Youth to name but a few.

Not only will you have the opportunity to see this pillar of poster-making in the flesh, but there will also be posters old and new on display, original art work, and a friendly festive atmosphere in which to enjoy it all!

This Saturday the 12^th December the Richard Goodall Gallery will be hosting the Custom Tea Tour, which was launched from London’s Forbidden Planet in August. 24 artists have teamed up with brainchild Matt Jones to produce the fantastic range of custom cups of tea, and what is more, Matt will be in human real-life attendance on the day to sign cups, flyers or foreheads (depending on your mood).

Not only will you have the chance to get your hands on a signed Earl Grey (available only at www.lunartik.com or as part of this tour) or a limited edition shirt there’ll also be the opportunity to see original resin sculpts, silicon casts, and Matt’s 2006 sketch books.  Artists contributing to this spectacular ensemble include Kenn Munk, Woolloomooloo, TADO, Mr Scruff, Pete Fowler, Sichi, ILoveDust, Okkle and lots more! Before achieving worldwide fame with the Beatles – one of the most successful bands in music history – Lennon had in fact set out on the road to becoming an artist. For three years (1957 – 1960) he attended the Liverpool Art Institute, and though the Beatles soon became more than a full-time occupation, John never abandoned his love of drawing.

Lennon had been collecting and preserving drawings which he felt were particularly important throughout his life, and it was from this collection that Yoko Ono began releasing limited edition fine art prints following her husband’s death. With the aim of establishing John as a significant artist of his time, many of the subsequently released images have now become iconic.

Primarily working in pencil, pen or Japanese Sumi Ink, Lennon’s drawings are ‘signed’ using a patented stamp known as a chop, often used by artists in the Orient. The stamp, reading “Like  a Cloud. Beautiful Sound” was applied by Lennon himself to each edition. Each limited edition print on sale at the exhibition displays this unique hallmark.

Marking the Affordable Art Fair’s 10th Anniversary, the Richard Goodall Gallery will be in attendance exhibiting the wonderful works of a number of our favourite artists including Ron Job, Donald Topp, Central Station, Kendra Binney and Niagara.

Beginning his illustrious career as a talent scout for MCA Music in 1988, Smith later joined EMI Music in 1992 and rose rapidly through the ranks due to impeccable taste and superlative scouting skills. Having signed Supergrass, Doves, Avalanches, Starsailor, The Libertines, The White Stripes, Gorillaz and Teenage Fan Club before moving on to assume his current role as MD of Columbia Records, it seems Smith is something of a talent guru. Did I mention he’s also an artist? A really good one?

Produced as fine art prints, the collection for this exclusive exhibition spans 20 years of musical magic and includes the likes of Bob Dylan, Blur, Faithless, Elbow, The Doves, Kasabian, The Gorillaz and many more besides.

And so to London! With a mind-bending Ray Caesar solo exhibition, The Richard Goodall Gallery will be showing brand new pieces created exclusively for the event by this wonderfully weird creator. The final pieces of Ray’s older editions will also be available, and visitors will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase the artist’s proofs of long sold out images.

London-born Ray Caesar is the creator of otherworldly digital images which are at once grim and hopeful; alien and familiar. Children are a mainstay of his creations – having worked for 17 years in The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ray has previously remarked “it is clear to me that this is the birthplace of all my imagery.” Fascinatingly futuristic yet curiously familiar, Caesar’s images are a journey into an unnervingly beautiful enigma.

From 25^th September the Richard Goodall Gallery will be hosting a brand new exhibition Topp This! Featuring over sixty new works by the US artist, the exhibition celebrates icons of the 21^st century, rendered in Topp’s signature style. Heavily influenced by the iconic 60’s style of the Pop Artists Lichtenstein and Warhol, Topp’s prints are hand or spray painted with hand-pulled screen images, and are the ultimate in affordable Pop Art.

Born in October 1975 on a small dairy farm outside Madison, Wisconsin, Topp studied Art Education at Carroll College before receiving an M.A. in visual studies from Cardinal Stritch University. Topp is currently represented by Firecracker Studios in the USA and the Richard Goodall Gallery in the UK.
