Before achieving worldwide fame with the Beatles – one of the most successful bands in music history – Lennon had in fact set out on the road to becoming an artist. For three years (1957 – 1960) he attended the Liverpool Art Institute, and though the Beatles soon became more than a full-time occupation, John never abandoned his love of drawing.

Lennon had been collecting and preserving drawings which he felt were particularly important throughout his life, and it was from this collection that Yoko Ono began releasing limited edition fine art prints following her husband’s death. With the aim of establishing John as a significant artist of his time, many of the subsequently released images have now become iconic.

Primarily working in pencil, pen or Japanese Sumi Ink, Lennon’s drawings are ‘signed’ using a patented stamp known as a chop, often used by artists in the Orient. The stamp, reading “Like  a Cloud. Beautiful Sound” was applied by Lennon himself to each edition. Each limited edition print on sale at the exhibition displays this unique hallmark.

Beginning his illustrious career as a talent scout for MCA Music in 1988, Smith later joined EMI Music in 1992 and rose rapidly through the ranks due to impeccable taste and superlative scouting skills. Having signed Supergrass, Doves, Avalanches, Starsailor, The Libertines, The White Stripes, Gorillaz and Teenage Fan Club before moving on to assume his current role as MD of Columbia Records, it seems Smith is something of a talent guru. Did I mention he’s also an artist? A really good one?

Produced as fine art prints, the collection for this exclusive exhibition spans 20 years of musical magic and includes the likes of Bob Dylan, Blur, Faithless, Elbow, The Doves, Kasabian, The Gorillaz and many more besides.

And so to London! With a mind-bending Ray Caesar solo exhibition, The Richard Goodall Gallery will be showing brand new pieces created exclusively for the event by this wonderfully weird creator. The final pieces of Ray’s older editions will also be available, and visitors will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase the artist’s proofs of long sold out images.

London-born Ray Caesar is the creator of otherworldly digital images which are at once grim and hopeful; alien and familiar. Children are a mainstay of his creations – having worked for 17 years in The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ray has previously remarked “it is clear to me that this is the birthplace of all my imagery.” Fascinatingly futuristic yet curiously familiar, Caesar’s images are a journey into an unnervingly beautiful enigma.

From the 4^th September we’ll be opening the doors on a brand new exhibition – Manchester: Looking for the Light Through the Pouring Rain. A celebration of Manchester’s unparalleled status in pop history, the exhibition offers a definitive photographic history of the Manchester music scene from 1976 to the present day through the stunning photography of Kevin Cummins.

For those of you that don’t know Mike Smith is the head of Columbia Records. He is also a very accomplished artist. He has been drawing forever, at pretty much every show he’s been to, and he’s been to a lot.

We are very proud to have the first exhibition of the art of Mike Smith in October at Richard Goodall Gallery High Street. Featuring a selection of his images from the last 20 years, produced as fine art prints.

This is an event not to be missed.

More coming in the following weeks, we have just done the final image selection from literally thousands of images for the exhibition.

This series of new works consist the largest pieces to date by Caesar. The oversize pieces transport us to the weird and wonderful world inhabited by Caesar’s impossible creations. Intricate and engrossing, disturbing yet beautiful.

Also on view will be the final pieces of Caesar’s previous works, exclusively available from the gallery. His work is highly sought after and is in the collections of many famous collectors and institutions.

The new ray caesar special edition book is now availalbe exclusivley in the UK at Richard Goodall Gallery.

Ray Caesar Art Collection, Volume One is a complete assembly of more than 250 images printed on 178 pages. This hard cover edition has been a labor of love over the past 15 months, and features an amazing collection of Ray’s drawings, render studies, process sketches and master works. Ray’s writings are also featured, revealing his personal journey on how he began his artistic journey. Ray’s paintings provide a visual codex of the more than 20 years spent working at the Toronto Children’s Hospital providing a “new” voice to the digital medium.

You will be happy to know that this first edition of “Ray Caesar Art Collection” features a 6 collector card set packaged in an envelope and shrink wrapped to the back of the book. The avid collector will not be disappointed, as many hours have been vested in the color reproduction, and specialty printing techniques. In addition, this hard bound collection features many new and unseen images that offer a glimpse into Ray’s compositional process.
