Renowned Chicago based screen-print artist Jay Ryan has teamed up with Manchester’s World Class Service Ltd to produce a series of exclusive prints and a very limited edition programme for the forthcoming UK tour of The Blue Planet Live! – based on the award-winning BBC documentary The Blue Planet.

World Class Service Ltd presents The Blue Planet Live! across the UK throughout April 2008:

Saturday 5 April Wembley Arena London Saturday 12 / Sunday 13 April St David's Hall Cardiff Saturday 19 April Nottingham Arena Nottingham Sunday 20 April Manchester Central Manchester Thursday 24 / Friday 25 April Symphony Hall Birmingham

One of the BBC Natural History Unit’s most successful brands of the last twenty years, The Blue Planet series was created in 2001 and has been sold to more than 140 countries, winning countless awards.

Sir David Attenborough has said of the live shows: “These concerts are not only a musical phenomenon; they also provide a stunningly visual and thought-provoking way of helping people to understand the oceans and the need for their protection.”

Howard Raynor, Managing Director of World Class Service Ltd said: “The Blue Planet Live! is about how people are moved by the incredible pictures they see and the music they hear. We thought Jay’s view of the animal kingdom was a perfect accompaniment to the dazzling pictures of the show. We are delighted that he has agreed to help us create the artist programme for 2008”

Ryan began hand drawing and screen-printing in 1995, working for Screwball Press. He then went on to launch his own silkscreen printshop in 1998 – The Bird Machine, in Chicago.

Ryan’s work encompasses elements of traditional children's illustration – in particular animals - combined with ragged and intense hand-drawn lettering and the use of both muted and vibrant palettes. He has created stunning posters for well-known musical names such as The Flaming Lips, Stereolab and Sonic Youth.

Jay Ryan said, “I'm excited to be involved in helping to bring together some portion of the Blue Planet Live! event. I hope to capture the vitality of the aquatic life covered in the show through the pictures of the animals which I am working on. This amazing combination of film and live music performance will add a totally new aspect to the Blue Planet series.”

Jay Ryan’s exclusive prints will be for sale at Manchester’s Richard Goodall Gallery: Underground.

All posters created for The Blue Planet Live! will be available to buy from the gallery or online at www.richardgoodallgallery.com. The very limited edition tour programme will only be available at the shows or via www.theblueplanetlive.com
