About Jay Ryan
Born in St Louis in 1972, he originally graduated in painting at the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1994 before moving to Chicago & landing a job at Screwball Press. After several years working there Jay finally set-up his own print studio in 1999 which he currently runs. A vast majority of his work is created without the use of computers. Ryan creates his band posters by reacting to the music and depicting the essence of the record either literally or figuratively. The link between his work and the music is not always obvious. His conceptually absorbing images are constructed in an unassuming style of simple lines and subdued colors. With over a decade of experience in the poster-making scene his work is much sought after and appears in private collections internationally. He has also published a book of his accumulative works, 100 Posters, 134 Squirrels: A Decade of Hot Dogs, Large Mammals, and Independent Rock: The Handcrafted Art of Jay Ryan.
