Leia Bell The Business of Ferrets Sep 29 - Oct 24
Paintings Drawings Posters Prints & Ephemera
Leia Bell will be in the Gallery on Sep 29th 12-5pm
Renowned American poster artist Leia Bell brings a brand new show of posters and original paintings - The Business of Ferrets to Richard Goodall Gallery: Underground from 29th September to 24th October 2007.
Leia Bell is one of the new group of artists exploding onto the rock poster scene. Her impressive body of work has upwards of 250 limited edition hand printed silk screened music posters despite only seven years in the business. The majority of these prints are for the Kilby Court in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - a venue that she and her husband own and operate. In recent years she has worked on posters for several UK venues including Rock City Main Hall in Nottingham and the Academy in Manchester.
Leia is unique in this group of artists due to the very small editions of the posters she produces. Her posters are never more than an edition of 150 and more often than not under 100, with over half of these being used for the promotion of the show and for the bands; so very few are ever on sale, making them highly collectible.
The exhibition which features well-known limited edition silkscreen posters for bands such as Echo and The Bunnymen, The Darkness, My Chemical Romance, and The Decemberists, will be on show and sale in the UK for the first time. The show will also include original paintings which will be available to purchase at the gallery and online at www.richardgoodallgallery.com. Prices range from £20 for posters to £300 for an original.
Commenting on her work, Bell says she “incorporates fun, hand-drawn illustrations into her silk-screens such as animals and kids.” She continued: “With my drawing/painting/printing style, I simplify figures so that they could be just about anyone. This allows my work to feel personal, not only to me, but to the viewer as well. In this same fashion I use animals as subject matter, giving them human characteristics with which many people can identify.”
Bell has enjoyed world recognition for her artwork including a spread in the massive Art of Modern Rock book, and she has been featured in Print magazine’s “20 Best Under 30” annual issue.
Richard Goodall, the curator of the show said: “Over a hundred of the posters will be on show and sale at the gallery throughout September and October and Leia will attend the VIP Preview night. All her work is offered in small runs and we’re privileged to be able to offer our customers the chance to purchase some original paintings”.
Richard Goodall Gallery: Underground offers a unique selection of exhibitions and shows from leading artists in rock art, street art and vinyl, along with its extensive range of art paintings and prints, limited edition silk screen music posters, designer vinyl figures, t-shirts and photography.
