Manchester’s Richard Goodall gallery is to host the world premier of the new record Aluminium and avant-garde orchestral album of the works of Jack White, as it launches its latest exhibition of exclusive new prints by Rob Jones from the XL Recordings album along with the Richard Goodall Gallerys entire collection of limited edition White Stripes and Raconteurs tour posters later this month.
The special collection sees rock artist Rob Jones present his work for the first time in the UK. Rob Jones is one of the US’s leading poster designers, and has produced a multitude of work for the White Stripes having produced over 50 posters and handbills, single covers, record boxes, T-Shirts, the official White Stripes website, the award winning cover of the DVD “Under Blackpool Lights”, and the stage backdrop used for the recent "Get Behind Me Satan" world tour.
Aluminium is an avant-garde orchestral interpretation of songs written by Jack White. According to XLs Richard Russell, the first time Jack and Meg heard cuts from Aluminum, Jack jumped up and started shouting excitedly. Meg remained quiet and demure as ever, saying softly, “this is amazing”. Until the exhibition launches no-one else will have heard this music anywhere.
The show will contain 30 new pieces from the Aluminium series, each a special triptych, in an edition of 33, although number 3 and 33 are reserved for Meg White and Jack White. The Aluminium pieces are a worldwide exclusive to the Richard Goodall Gallery. Also on show will be over 50 of the very rare White Stripes and Raconteurs limited edition tour posters along with Rob’s other work. Prices will range from £25 to £500 depending on the piece. Also available will be a special limited edition show print, exclusive Aluminium vinyl and three oversized Aluminium themed silkscreens limited to 13 copies each, plus "aluminized" variant editions of the oversize prints limited to 6 copies each.
The Richard Goodall Gallery curator Jody Goodall comments: “We are delighted that Rob Jones is to launch this new work exclusively in Manchester and XL Records have chosen this occasion to launch the Aluminium album. Manchester has long had an affinity with cutting edge music and art and is the perfect place to premier the art and the record.”
Rob Jones will attend a special preview showing of the exhibition on Saturday 29th June from 12 – 6pm when he will be signing copies of the prints.
The exhibition is supported by Fopp Records.
