Mahatoys have collaborated with Medicom to produce a 12″ Jean Michel Basquiat Real Action Hero.
Following the Andy Warhol 12″ figure, this is the second release in mahatoys’ 20th Century Artists Series and is also part of Medicom’s prestigious real action Heroes (RAH) range. This 1:6 scale representation of Jean-Michel Basquiat shows the artist in pensive mood, donning the grey trenchcoat her wore in the film Downtown 81.
Basquiat was originally notices in New York for his graffiti under the tag SAMO. He went on to gain widespread respect among the fine art circles in the early 1980′s as an avant-garde artist exploring themes such as racial identity and the future with his use of iconography, collage and text. After struggling to come to terms with fame and drugs, Basquiat tragically died of a heroin overdose in 1988.
